Networking and Learning at EACUBO’s 2019 Annual Meeting

Upside
Connect with Upside at EACUBO 2019 What: Upside Business Travel at the Eastern Association of College and University Business Officers Annual Meeting, Booth 615 When: October 13-16, 2019 Where: Baltimore Marriott Waterfront Hotel, Baltimore, MD The EACUBO is a network of administrative leaders that drive the business aspect of universities on the east coast. Their annual meeting is coming up in Baltimore, and this one will be a significant milestone: their hundredth meeting, celebrating 100 years of the organization. As such, the theme of the meeting is "Launching into the Future; Powered by the Past." The intent is to celebrate the accomplishments they've had over the last hundred years, as well as looking forward to what comes next. The reception on Sunday night will look back at the different eras that the EACUBO has been through, from the New Deal to post-World War II, to Vietnam, and through the new Millennium and the Great Recession. Volunteers will be dressed in costume, representing their favorite historical eras, and guests are invited to do the same. Monday morning starts with a networking breakfast, followed by a session with Academy Award winning actress Geena Davis. Addition to her roles in such acclaimed and popular films as Thelma and Louise and A League of Their Own, she's the founder of the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media, which promotes more and better roles for women in television and movies. During the concurrent sessions, you won't want to miss Looking Upward: How Moving IT to the Cloud Can Be More Efficient and Effective (If You Do It Right). The session, at 10:30am, will be moderated by Dr. Paul Friga of UNC Kenan-Flager Business School, and talks about staying up to date with evolving technology and using it to streamline business efforts. The day ends with a happy hour, followed by an evening reception. Tuesday's General Session will be an award presentation featuring Susan Cain, lecturer and author of such books as Quiet Power: The Secret Strength of Introverts. Concurrent sessions include topics such as taxes and business income, cybersecurity, climate change, and more. Don't miss the ice cream social at 1:30pm in the Exhibit Hall, or the networking reception at the end of the day at the B&O Railroad Museum. On Wednesday, the final day of the meeting is kicked off with a general session by Dr. Michio Kaku, acclaimed scientist, futurist, and expert in how advances in technology will shape our world. The theme of looking toward the future is then continued in the concurrent sessions, including Board Needs of the Future, Leadership in the New Century, and even an exploration of how robots are transforming the campus dining experience. All of this is in addition to a variety of exhibitors and booths in the Exhibit Hall from educational institutions of all types and sizes, as well as the businesses that drive them.
