Pocket Guide: Charlotte Douglas International Airport

Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) is an airport located seven miles from downtown Charlotte. CLT connects business travelers from the Queen City with international metropolises like New York City, Los Angeles and London. It also welcomes passengers from across the county and beyond. CLT is the world's sixth-busiest airport and operates more than 160 non stop destinations. Here is a guide to this major travel hub for business travelers.

The Basics

CLT has one terminal with six concourses, and check-in kiosks and booking desks are located in all of them. Air Canada, Delta Air Lines, Southwest Airlines and United Airlines run flights from Concourse A, while most international flights operate from Concourse A North. Various modes of transport serve the airport, such as bus, taxi and hotel shuttle. A car rental service is also available. CLT is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. TSA security is open every day from 4 a.m.

Where to Eat

There are a number of dining options at CLT. These include Bojangles' Famous Chicken 'n Biscuits, a fast-food chain that operates in the southeastern United States. The restaurant is located in Concourse B, near Gate B9. Fresh Attractions -- a deli that serves sandwiches and other snacks -- entices passengers in Concourse C, close to Gate C11. Other eateries at CLT include Genghis Grill, A Taste of Carolina and Wendy's.

Where to Buy

CLT brims with retail outlets. Travelers can head to News South Travelmart for newspapers, magazines and snacks, for example. The store is located in Concourse E, just over from Gate E26. Erwin Pearl, which specializes in handmade jewelry, has a location by the main entrance of the airport. Other stores at CLT include electronics retailer InMotion Entertainment and Best Buy Express.

Business travelers can relax in the American Airlines Admirals Club, an exclusive lounge for eligible members. There are two of these locations at CLT: one in Concourse B, between Gates 3 and 5, and one in Concourse C. The lounges have shower suites, business centers and snack bars.

There are several restrooms at CLT. There are bathrooms in all of the six concourses and the main baggage area.

Business travelers can enjoy free WiFi throughout the airport. High-speed internet access is available at the airport's business center in the atrium, which is located between Concourses B and C.

Other amenities

ATMs are dotted throughout the airport terminal -- there are machines located in all six concourses. The First In Flight Lounge welcomes passengers in the atrium, which straddles Concourses B and C. Travelers can relax in this quiet space and overlook the terminal -- perfect for a layover in Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Other amenities include smartphone charging stations and currency exchange. XpresSpa, a full-service spa for travelers, is located at the entrance of Concourse B.
