Level Up Your Business Travel with Credit Card Perks
How well do you understand the difference between the two types of business credit cards out there?
The first type is the one for businesses that prefer cashback rewards to have a lower statement balance each month. If you don't fit into this first category, then you'll crave these credit cards perks which will help business travelers like you get more value from each point compared to a standard statement credit.
Frequent flyer miles are almost always more valuable than hotel rewards points because plane tickets are more expensive and the airline sector is extremely competitive trying to win your business.
Flexible Travel Rewards
If you're not loyal to a particular airline, the American Express Business Platinum Card can earn you 5x points on all airfare and hotels. This is one of the quickest ways to earn rewards points from flights and hotels without using a co-brand business credit card.
In addition to 5x rewards, you'll also enjoy benefits including 1:1 point transfers, $200 airline fee credit, 35% redemption bonus on award flights, 50% point bonus on all purchases at least $5,000, complimentary airport lounge membership to 6 networks including Delta Sky Club and Priority Pass Select, Global Entry and TSA PreCheck application fee reimbursement, elevated Starwood Preferred Guest and Hilton Honors membership status, and free Boingo WiFi hotspot access.
1:1 Point Transfers
While you can transfer points on a 1:1 basis with the American Express Business Platinum Card, a $450 annual fee might not be in your budget if you don't travel on a consistent basis. The Chase Ink Business Preferred only costs $95 per year and earns up to 3x points on many business purchases.
If you redeem your rewards points directly through Chase, they are worth 1.25 cents each. But, you can easily get at least 2 cents per Ultimate Rewards point when you transfer them to certain airlines, specifically United, Southwest Airlines, and British Airways Avios (includes American Airlines partner flights).
You can also find some good deals on hotel nights to when you transfer your points to World of Hyatt where your points can easily worth at least 2 cents each.
The Best Hotel Business Credit Cards
Several co-brand hotel business credit cards offer hotel and airline rewards. So, you can use this card for your business purchases and also save money on your hotel nights and flights at the same time.
Free Hotel Night Certificates
The Hilton Honors American Express Business Credit Card earns Hilton Honors points for the following purchases: 12x points on Hilton purchases, 6x points on select business purchases, and 3x points on all remaining purchases.
By spending $15,000 and $60,000 a year in total card purchases you get a free weekend night certificate. As an added Hilton Honors bonus, you will receive automatic Hilton Honors Gold membership status.
You also receive 10 free Priority Pass Select airport lounge passes each card anniversary too.
Complimentary Hotel Lounge Access
The Starwood Preferred Guest Business Credit Card from American Express is one of the best business credit cards for travel rewards for multiple reasons, including complimentary access to Sheraton Club Lounge with each Starwood stay, rewards nights start at 2,000 points, free Boingo WiFi hotspot access plus in-room internet at Starwood properties, and 5,000 point bonus when you transfer at least 20,000 Starpoints to your frequent flyer account.
You will also earn up to 5 Starpoints on all SPG stays. Since the Starwood Preferred Guest loyalty program is merging with Marriott Rewards, you can also transfer your points to Marriott to book a stay at a Marriott property too.
Your business travel will dictate what credit cards perks make the most sense for you. You will need to pick the card that compliments your business travel needs most, whether it's a co-brand travel credit card or a flexible rewards credit card that earns bonus points on any travel purchase.
